A long time ago...... (shhhhhhh)
To describe Mark Zee’s body of work would be like trying to sum up the dictionary in five words or less. A life long student of the arts (painting, music, photography, drawing, graphic design etc.) Zee began his career in art around the time he could grasp his first Jumbo Crayola. As a child Zee absorbed everything he saw around him growing up in his parent's flower shop. His babysitter & best friend was the 10” black and white TV he watched upstairs at the shop, unblinking for hours at a time. His TV time included such shows as Zorro, Battlestar Galactica, the Wolfman, Flash Gordon, the A-Team, Kung-fu flicks and an excess of Saturday morning cartoons, influences that aare prevalent in many of his projects today.
At the age of 9 while watching WTTW11 he witnessed a movie that would change his life. That movie was “Style Wars.” Arming himself with a black marker and a home-made Zorro mask Zee proceeded to leave his “mark” on every possible surface. And to this day you will still find at least one marker within reaching distance.
Influenced heavily by the graffiti scene, punk rock and cinema, Zee has transformed his roots in street art and graffiti into something unique and original.
